Lot description:

CYPRUS. Kition. Baalmelek II, circa 425-400 BC. Stater (Silver, 23 mm, 11.11 g, 3 h). Herakles in fighting stance to right, wearing lion skin, holding club overhead in right hand and bow extended before him in left hand. Rev. Lion attacking stag right; all within dotted border within incuse square. BMC 35. SNG Copenhagen 9-10. Tziambazis 19. Struck from a worn reverse die and with traces of overstriking, otherwise, very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

Judging from the distinct remnants of an incusum on the obverse, this coin was clearly overstruck on a turtle-stater from Aegina.

Starting price: 100 CHF
