Lot description: Alexius I Comnenus Æ Tetarteron. Uncertain mint in Greece (?)., AD 1081-1118. Crowned bust facing, wearing loros and holding jewelled sceptre and globus cruciger / Patriarchal cross set on two steps; AΦ as monogram and K retrograde across fields. The usual initials on Alexius' Tetartera A-Δ Κ-Φ (ΑΛΕΞΙΟΝ ΔΕΣΠΟΤΗΝ KYPIE ΦΥΛΑΤΤΕ, 'Lord, protect Alexius Despotes'), are here arranged as a monogram and letter, indicating an uncertain provincial mint.
