Contemporary hybrid imitation of City Commemorative Æ 14mm. Imitating Lugdunum, circa AD 333-334. VRBS ROMA, helmeted bust of Roma to left, wearing imperial mantle / Victory standing to left on prow, holding spear and shield; SLG in exergue. Cf. RIC VII 242 for obv., cf. RIC VII 241 for rev. 1.20g, 14mm, 6h.

Ex Nether Compton Hoard.

The Urbs Roma obverse type is not found combined with Victory on prow reverse type which is normally reserved for the Constantinopolis city commemorative obverse type.

This hoard was discovered by Mike Pittard while metal detecting near Nether Compton, Dorset on 19th February 1989. It comprised of 22,670 largely Constantinian coins and was deposited with the Yeovil Museum until 1994, after which it was returned to the finder and sold.
