Contemporary hybrid imitation of City Commemorative Æ 12mm. Imitating uncertain mint, circa AD 333-334. VRBS ROMA, laureate and cuirassed bust to right / Victory standing to left on prow, holding spear and shield; [...] in exergue. Cf. RIC VII 242 (Lugdunum) for obv. prototype, cf. RIC VII 241 (Lugdunum) for similar rev. type. 1.09g, 12mm, 4h.

Ex Nether Compton Hoard.

The Urbs Roma obverse type is not found combined with Victory on prow reverse type which is normally reserved for the Constantinopolis city commemorative obverse type.

This hoard was discovered by Mike Pittard while metal detecting near Nether Compton, Dorset on 19th February 1989. It comprised of 22,670 largely Constantinian coins and was deposited with the Yeovil Museum until 1994, after which it was returned to the finder and sold.
