Two wrestlers grappling / Slinger in throwing stance right; triskeles to right, ΕΣΤFΕΔΙΙΥΣ upwards to left; all within pellet border within incuse square. SNG France 46. SNG von Aulock 4504. Good Very Fine; beautiful iridescent toning on fresh surfaces; a bit of die rust and interesting die breaks on obverse; well centered and of fine style. Very pleasing example of this iconic issue, minted at the very beginning of the series.

The famous wrestler coins of Aspendos epitomize the ancient classical devotion to athleticism in action, and portray wrestlers in a great variety of poses. In this example, the wrestlers grasp each other's arms. Wrestling was a main event across the ancient world, with intense competition at all the Olympic Games and gymnasia.
