Stars below IC/XC. / Theodore standing facing, wearing crown and chlamys, holding cruciform scepter and akakia, with star in field to right. DOC IV.2, 6.1; SB 2022. EF much of legend missing. .

Theodore I Comnenus-Lascaris, emperor of Nicaea, 1208-1222. Aspron Trachy (Bronze, 27 mm, 3.26 g, 6 h), Nicaea, circa 1205-1212. The Virgin Mary enthroned facing, nimbate and wearing pallium and maphorium, holding before her the nimbate head of the infant Christ; to her left and right, MHP - ΘV. Rev. Theodore I standing facing on the left, wearing ditivision and loros, holding labarum in his right hand and St. Theodore, nimbate and bearded, standing facing on the right in military attire, holding spear in his left hand; both holding between them patriarchal cross; around, traces of legend. DOC 5a. SB 2061. Repatinated, otherwise, good very fine.

Christ, nimbate, seated facing on square-backed throne, wearing tunic and pallium, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels in his left. Rev. ΘЄΟΔωPOC ΔЄCΠOT Θ[ЄΟΔωΡΟC] St. Theodore, nimbate and in military attire on the right, and Theodore, bearded and on the left, standing facing, each holding sheathed sword and supporting, between them, a staff surmounted by eight-pointed star with pellet-in-circle. DOC 2. SB 2064. An exceptional piece, beautifully struck and with a wonderful rendering of the emperor. Light doubling and with minor graffiti, otherwise, good extremely fine.
