RUSSIA. Nicholas I/ Mining Institute Silver Award Medal, ND (1834). PCGS Specimen Genuine--Repaired, Unc Details.
Diakov-512.1 (R3). By H. Gube & P. Utkin. Diameter: 66mm. Unawarded. Obverse: Bare head left; Reverse: Female figure (Mother Russia/Cybele) seated left, holding drum, resting elbow upon lion crouching to right, and crowning youth kneeling to left; mining tools around; in exergue, panel left blank for engraving. Despite the noted repair, which emanates from what was likely a problem area on the back of the neck of the tsar, this VERY RARE mining-related prize medal features a sharp and scintillating strike paired with alluring brilliance and an attractive iridescent tone.

Estimate: $1500 - $2500
