TUDOR. Edward VI. 1547-1553. AV Sovereign (37mm, 11.16 g, 11h). Third period, crown gold coinage. Tower (London) mint; im: У. Struck 1551–1553. Crowned and armored half-length bust right, holding sword over right shoulder and globus cruciger in left hand / Crowned coat-of-arms with crowned leopard and griffin supporters; all set on ornate frame with central titulus inscribed ER. Schneider 690; North 1927; SCBC 2450. Richly toned with underlying luster. In NGC encapsulation 6844908-002, graded XF 45. A pleasing and well pedigreed example of this rare Sovereign. Conservatively graded by NGC in our opinion.
