Lot description: BURGUNDIANS. Gundomar II. 524-532. AV Tremissis (14mm, 1.43 g, 6h). In the name of the Byzantine emperor Justinian I (527-565). Lugdunum (Lyon) mint. [D N IVS]TINIΛNVS P P ΛGV, diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / VICTOR I + Λ ΛVCCC, Victory standing right, holding wreath in outstretched right hand; G (for Gundomar) to left, star to right; Λ//COИOB. Cf. Tomasini Group JAN 11a; Alise-Sainte-Reine Hoard 17-20; MEC 1, –, but cf. 341. Lightly toned, traces of die rust, scuffs on high points, underlying luster. EF. Very rare. Although struck bearing the name of the Eastern Roman emperors on the obverse, the late Burgundian gold issues are attributable to particular kings by the various monograms or letters placed in the reverse fields.
