CRUSADERS, Chios. Maona di Chio. Circa 1347-1566. AV Ducat (21mm, 3.50 g, 5h). Imitating Venice issue of Antonio Venier. Uncertain mint. S/M/V/Є/N/Є/T/I to left, D/V/X and ΛИTO VЄИЄRIO to right, S. Mark standing right and Doge kneeling left, holding banner between them; annulet to left of banner / SIT T XPЄ DΛT Q TV RЄGIS ISTЄ DVCΛT, Christ standing facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels, surrounded by mandorla containing nine stars. Cf. CNI VII 32 (for type); Ives –; cf. Gamberini 394 (same). Bright surfaces, some roughness and peripheral weakness, clipped. .
