| Lot description: Medieval Bharat : Hoysalas Hoysalas of Dwarasamudra, Vishnuvardhana- Bittiga, Uninscribed Gold Heavy Fanam, 0.57g, Uniface, a demonic face, usually seen above the main door of a temple or as cardinal high point of a Prabha behind an icon, known as Kirttimukha on obverse (Not listed in Mitch or Ganesh). Extremely fine, extremely rare. The attribution of this rare type of fanam to the Hoysalas is based on the fact that exactly the same Kirttimukha motif is seen on gold gadyanas of Bittiga with the legend Shri Maleparolu Gonda.
