Lot description: Medieval Bharat : Kadambas Kadambas of Hangal, Uninscribed 'U'-shaped Gold Fanam, 0.38g, Obv: On extremities retrospect ant roaring Lion, Rev: On extremities floral scroll (Not listed in Ganesh or Mitch). Very fine+, extremely rare. The attribution of this coin to the Kadambas of Hangal is on the basis that it bears motifs which match closely to the full Gadyanas with retrospectant lion with an inscription 'Toyima' below. The methid of manufacture of this coin is unique – a gold wire is twisted in the middle to bring its extremities close to each other and then they are stamped between two dies. This is different than the usual 'U'-shaped Fanams where the wire is bent in the middle and struck three times. Estimate: 30000-40000 INR |
