Lot description:

Independent Kingdoms : Pindari
Central and Peninsular India, so-called "Pindari" style, Copper Kachcha Paisa (3), 14.39, 14.75g, 14.70g, with small countermarks on very worn Bahamani under types, Two coins bear two countermarks – Amir Shah and Sultan Mahmud (crudely written) and one bears only Sultan Mahmud. Very fine, rare. 3 coins. These coins are sometimes attributed to the Barid Shahi sultans of Bidar. However, there was no 'Sultan Mahmud' in the Barid Shahi dynasty and as it is clearly evident from one of these coins, the countermark 'Amir Shah' has been struck over 'Sultan Mahmud'. This suggests that either both countermarks were applied around the same time, or 'Amir Shah' came after 'Sultan Mahmud'. Both these propositions suggest that the attribution to Barid Shahi sultans is highly problematic.

Estimate: 5000-6000 INR
