Ioan Voda was the illegitimate son of Ştefan IV whose short reign ended in defeat against the Ottoman Empire. He is also known as John 'the terrible' due to his harsh treatment of the Moldavian nobility. He struck a lone copper coin type called the akce which was the first coin to not list the ruler's name and to have the legend written in Romanian.
