| Lot description: BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, Philip III, assayer M (pre-dated type), ex-Ponte, ex-Sellschopp (Plate), Grunthal-Sellschopp Plate. S-P18; KM-10; Cal-919. 27.24 grams. Full but slightly doubled shield with mintmark P and dot appearing twice above trace of assayer M (which Sellschopp and others seem to have missed, as in all its previous appearances it was attributed to assayer P), full cross-and-tressure, richly toned VF+, desirable pedigrees. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection and to the Sellschopp Collection (Swiss Bank Corp auction of September 1988, lot 635), plated as coin 431 in Sellschopp's Las acuñaciones de las cecas de Lima, La Plata y Potosí (1971) and as coin 428 in Grunthal-Sellschopp's The Coinage of Peru (1978).
