Lot description: UNITED STATES, New Orleans mint, Seated Liberty half dollar, 1861-O, Louisiana issue (die W-03), NGC Shipwreck Effect (B) UNC (SS Republic). KM-A68. The first of seven different 1861-O halves from the SS Republic in this auction, representing almost half of the 15 die pairings. Struck by the authority of the State of Louisiana between its secession from the Union on January 26, 1861, and its admission to the Confederate States on March 21, 1861. Mint State with substantial mint luster and sharp details, very little in the way of saltwater corrosion. With SS Republic: The Final Voyage display box. Recovered from: S.S.
