Lot description:

MEXICO, Mexico City, cob 8 reales, 1708 (J), NGC VF 20 / 1715 Fleet (oversized slab). S-M22; KM-47; Cal-1394. Crazy narrow shape with rounded middle and flat ends, one of which has a sharp point in a part that extends well past the coin design, which ends with a clear and bold 8 of date next to nearly full crown, most of shield, the cross well centered but almost totally flat (as made), deeply toned all over and clearly corrosion-free to merit the numeric grade (very rare for shipwreck silver), housed in an impressively large slab but without weight stated. With original Cobb Coin Co (Fisher) photo-certificate LLCC214. Recovered from: Spanish 1715 Fleet, sunk off the east coast of Florida

Estimate: $750 - $1500
