Lot description: BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, 1620 (T), 2 in date rendered as Z/N (unique), quadrants of cross transposed, ex-Atocha Research Collection (coin 227). S-P21; KM-10; Cal-930. 19.37 grams. Thin and edge-truncated from heavy corrosion (cross and shield still full, the latter bold) but with 100% full date showing a unique error where the penultimate digit (using an N punch) was originally punched in sideways (making it look like a Z) but then overpunched with the correct orientation, first we have ever seen or heard of. With original Fisher tag and photo-certificate 85A-236613. Recovered from: Atocha, sunk in 1622 west of Key West, Florida Estimate: $2000 - $3000 |
