Lot description:

Large silver ingot #529 from Potosí, 82 lb 0.32 oz troy, Class Factor 0.8, with markings of manifest IULXXXVII (1087), fineness IIUCCCLXXX (2380/2400), owners/shippers, silvermaster and tax stamps, ex-Atocha (1622). 14" x 5-1/4" x 3". A rather large bar with wide top displaying lots of markings, including four owner/shipper "siglas" (diamond-topped D, BR monogram, MB monogram, and another monogram containing a B that appears to be have been effaced), clear fineness in eight boxes followed by what appears to be a MEXIA assayer cartouche, the manifest number with bold IULX but weak XXVII, silvermaster's V in corner and characteristic "double-pinch" assayer's "bite" in center, not much corrosion so probably just issued without date and mint (which would be required to merit a higher Class Factor), small bits of charcoal embedded in sides. From the Atocha (1622), with original Fisher photo-certificate 85A-S529.

Estimate: $25000 - $50000
