| Lot description: The Geoffrey Cope Collection of British Coins. Charles I 'Fine Work' Shillings of the Tower Mint. AR Halfcrown (35mm, 14.63 g, 4h). Truro mint; im: rose. Struck 1642-1643. Charles on horseback galloping left, holding baton and reins / Crowned coat-of-arms; C R flanking. Lockett, "Notes on the mints of Truro and Exeter under Charles I," in BNJ XXII (1938), 2 and pl. iii., 19 (this coin illustrated); Bull 652/6 (this coin cited); Besly B6.1 = Brooker 1015 (this coin); North 2535; SCBC 3047 (this coin illustrated). Diagnostic die break on obverse and a few minor marks. Deeply toned. Good VF. The finer of only two specimens known for this key provincial halfcrown. Ex P. Earthy Collection; R.
