The Geoffrey Cope Collection of British Coins. Charles I 'Fine Work' Shillings of the Tower Mint.
AR Halfcrown (36mm, 15.42 g, 5h). Declaration type. Bristol mint; im: plumes/pellet. Dated 1644. Charles on horseback left, holding sword and reins; plumes to right, (BR) below / REL : PROT :/ LE : AN : LI : PA :/ 1644/ (BR). Morrieson, Bristol D-6; Bull 643/6a (this coin cited); Brooker 984 (same dies); North 2491; SCBC 3009 (this coin illustrated).
Bold strike. Very light mark in centre of reverse under deep purple tone.
Good VF. Rare.
