Oxford mint; im: plume / rosette. Dies by T. Rawlins. Dated 1644. Crowned bust left; XII (mark of value) to right; tiny R on truncation, lozenge stops / RELIG : PROT/ LEG :· ANG :/ LIBER : PAR/ · 1644 ·/ · OX · (lozenge stops); three plumes flanked by two small rosette above. Brooke, English Coins pl. XLIX, no. 2 - same dies; Morrieson, Oxford E-6; Brooker 945A (this coin); North 2456; SCBC 2979. Struck on a perfectly round flan from carefully engraved dies.
