Lot description: The Geoffrey Cope Collection of British Coins. Charles I 'Fine Work' Shillings of the Tower Mint. AR Halfcrown (34mm, 14.81 g, 6h). Aberystwyth mint; im: open book. Struck 1638/9-1642. Charles on horseback left, holding reins and sword; plumes to right / Plumes over coat-of-arms. Morrieson, Aberystwyth A-1; Brooker 741 (this coin); North 2325; SCBC 2878 (this coin illustrated). Very well struck for Aberystwyth. Even wear on high points. Distinctive 'Bridgewater' mauve toning.
