The Geoffrey Cope Collection of British Coins. Charles I 'Fine Work' Shillings of the Tower Mint.
Proof AR Shilling (32mm, 6.04 g, 4h). Group E, type 4.2. London mint; im: tun. Struck 1636-1638. Crowned fifth ('Aberystwyth') bust left; XII (mark of value) to right / Coat-of-arms over short cross moline. Sharp (HLL) type F1/1 and p. 175 = Brooker 514A (this coin); North 2228; SCBC 2794.
Struck with great care on a perfectly round flan. Light grey toning with golden lustre.
EF. Extremely rare.
