Lot description: The Geoffrey Cope Collection of British Coins. James I. 1603-1625. Pattern AR Farthing (12mm, 0.40 g, 6h). Crowned IR; roses to left and below, thistle to right / Crowned portcullis. Peck 115; North 2142. Deeply toned with flashes of lustre. EF. Very rare. Ex Spink 212 (28 March 2012), lot 523; R.C. Lockett (English Part II, 11 October 1956), lot 2166; Sir K. Vaughan Morgan (Sotheby & Co., 17 June 1935), lot 210; R. Carlyon-Britton Collection This charming pattern bears a close resemblance to some of the late pattern issues of Elizabeth (see lot 1215).
