The Geoffrey Cope Collection of British Coins. Edward VI. 1547-1553.
AR Halfcrown (36mm, 15.81 g, 2h). Third period; Fine Silver issue. London mint; im: Y. Dated 1551. Edward, armored and holding sword, on caparisoned horse right / Coat-of-arms over long cross fourchée. North 1934; SCBC 2479.
Uncommonly well struck on a broad flan from fresh dies. Even grey tone with underlying lustre.
EF. Exceptional detail to horse and king.The first English silver Halfcrown
and the finest known example.
