Lot description: The Geoffrey Cope Collection of British Coins. Primary Sceattas. Circa 670/5-690. AR Sceat (12mm, 1.26 g, 12h). Series A, type 2b. Mint in Kent. Radiate bust right; TIC to right, linked annulets and A-like ornament to left / 'Standard' with ToT II, curved horns on upper corners; tufa with pellets above. Abramson 3-30; SCBI 63 (BM), 54 (same obv. die); SCBI 67 (Abramson), 34-6; North 40; SCBC 775. Rich, glossy tone. EF. An excellent example of the first silver Sceat. Estimate: 500 CHF |
