| Lot description: Russia Aleksei Mikhailovich Counterstamped Yefimok (Jefimok) 1655 XF45 NGC, Spassky-79. Host: Ferdinand I (1564-1595) Austria Taler ND (Dav-8094); Counterstamps: Czar on horseback and 1655. Battleship gray in color and retaining crisp readability in the legends, this already challenging counterstamp issue is made all the more precious because of the rarity of the host. In his attempt to reconstruct the Russian monetary system, Aleksei decreed a value of 64 Kopeks for these counterstamped Talers. It is believed that these pieces were designated for circulation in the Ukraine, which Russia had annexed in 1654. Ex.
