Lot description: Costa Rica Central American Republic Counterstamped "Carrillo" 2 Reales ND (1841-1842) G4 NGC, San Jose mint, cf. KM8 (for Guatemalan type). Host: Guatemala Philip V Cob 2 Reales 1736; Counterstamp: Type 1 radiant 6-pointed star (VF Strong), control test-punch over the lions tail. While the vast majority of this highly popular countermarked type are struck from milled coinage, rarely does one witness a Cob host as seen here. Issued by the Don Braulio Carrillo administration to regulate the foreign silver in circulation with the round dump removed to cover the costs of the regulation labor. https://coins.ha.com/itm/costa-rica/costa-rica-central-american-republic-counterstamped-carrillo-2-reales-nd-1841-1842-g4-ngc-/a/3115-32439.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchives-WorldCoins-3115-05082024 HID02906262019 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved |
