Lot description: Costa Rica Central American Republic gold 8 Escudos 1828 CR-F VF35 NGC, San Jose mint, KM17, Fr-1, Onza-1746 (Rare). Mintage: 5,302. A historically significant piece of Costa Rican numismatics, considered the first gold coin produced in the recently independent nation. The fact that this lovely example saw moderate, but relatively gentle, wear from circulation could be seen as a positive, considering no damage was endured as a result, because it means this coin was widely used in commerce during an incredibly important time in Latin American history. Pale-yellow with greenish-amber accents and without any particular abrasions of note, this evenly worn piece still proudly displays the sunface over mountains scene the issue is famous for. https://coins.ha.com/itm/costa-rica/costa-rica-central-american-republic-gold-8-escudos-1828-cr-f-vf35-ngc-/a/3115-31148.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchives-WorldCoins-3115-05082024 HID02906262019 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved Estimate: 8000-10000 USD |
