| Lot description: Chile Republic "Volcano" Peso 1817 SANTIAGO-FD VF Details (Harshly Cleaned) PCGS, Santiago mint, KM82.2, Elizondo-80. Variety with "Y" left of pillar. First year of type. The vast majority of the 1817 issues, including the Spanish colonial types, were produced by the assayers Jose Maria de Bobadilla and Francisco Rodriguez Brochero. The 'FD' assayer was only present for a brief period of time on 1817 "Volcano" Pesos, evidenced by the very few available examples today. The surfaces of this rare offering boast a deep gunmetal hue, enhanced with a midnight toning that provides the blueish tint.
