Victoria gold Proof Pattern 2 Pounds 1887 PR62 Deep Cameo PCGS, KM768, S-3865, Marsh-T28 (R5), W&R-291 (R5). No B.P. initials to reverse. An enigmatic Pattern of this instantly recognizable "Jubilee" issue, featuring both an obverse and reverse akin to what is witnessed on circulation and Proof issues, yet lacking Benedetto Pistrucci's trademark "B.P." initials on the reverse. Specialist David Iverson posits this creation the product of the surviving master tools of Pistrucci's original 1820 and 1823 2 Pounds issues, yet slightly modified only in size. The modified Proof designs were then submitted for approval to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Queen prior to production of the new Jubilee issues.

The present Pattern is one of just 12 examples that have been certified across NGC and PCGS, an absolute rarity without question. Ranks of die polish and deep mirrors affirm the Deep Cameo designation awarded by PCGS, as Victoria's Jubilee effigy and Pistrucci's iconic St. George motif stand in textured juxtaposition to the expanses. Scattered copper spotting provides some visual intrigue to the otherwise neat and untoned surfaces. Merging beauty, conservation, and rarity, this offering is surely one of the standouts in this collection, and we expect bidding activity commensurate with that fact. From the Ezen Collection
