| Lot description: Great Britain Victoria gold "4 over inverted 4" Sovereign 1844 AU50 PCGS, KM736.1, S-3852. Marsh-27A (R2). An exceedingly rare error variety that has been identified in three subsequent years' Sovereigns (1844, 1845 and 1846). The error on the date is clearly visible on this present selection, with an illustrious pedigree to complement its story. The obverse admits gentle wear and light handling marks, whereas the reverse is practically Mint State. Ex.
