| Lot description: Great Britain Victoria gold "Shield - Open 2" Sovereign 1842 AU58 PCGS, KM736.1, S-3852, Marsh-25A (R2). A well-appointed example of the peculiar "open 2" variety. The reverse is magnificently lustrous, whereas the obverse admits mild chatter to fields that preclude full Mint State designation. Nonetheless, this offering is the sole finest example currently certified at PCGS, and desirable as such.
