Lot description: Ottoman Empire. Mustafa II. AH 1106-1115 / AD 1695-1703. AV Sultani (20mm, 3.40 g, 12h). Ordu-yu Humayun mint. Dated AH 1106 (AD 1695). Artuk 1737; Pere 489; KM A131. Near EF, ex-mount and with matte surfaces. Very rare. 'Ordu-yu Humayun' translates as 'Imperial Army', and denotes a travelling military mint. While the dies themselves were probably prepared in Istanbul, the coins themselves may have been struck while the army itself was on campaign during the Great Turkish War (AD 1683-1699). Estimate: 1000 USD |
