(g) NGC PF70 ULTRA CAM | Elizabeth II (1952-2022), Proof Two-Pounds, 1994, Double-Sovereign Error Mule, Commemorating "300 Years of the Bank of England", third head right, by R Maklouf, rev. Corporate Seal of the Bank of England featuring Seated Britannia, crowned monogram of William and Mary above, Bank of England in hand-written font below, edge milled, 15.98g*, 12h (Spink K4), uncirculated with brilliant fields, as struck, , in NGC holder, graded PF70 ULTRA CAMEO (Cert. #6768159-001), with original Royal Mint box of issued and the Certificate of Authenticity (No. 0431).
It is not known precisely how many of these intended 1,000 gold Proofs were issued before the Royal Mint noticed the error and requested original purchasers return the coins for a correctly-struck replacement in July 1994. However general thought is that no more than 400 pieces entered circulation, this evidently being one of the first pieces to do so before the mistake was realised
