Edward I (1272-1307), Great Recoinage, Type E, Groat, 1279, London, + EDWARDVS: D'I: GRA': REX: ANGL':, tri-colon stops, tall-crowned bust facing, with oval face and bushy hair, no rosette on thick-curved drapery, stars beside, all in tripe-tressure, rosettes in spandrels, rev.. :DN'S HBIN'E DVX AQVT', tri-colon stop, pellet-barred n, long cross and pellets, 5.37g [82.9grns], 2h (Allen e2/r28-29, unlisted; Fox 4; North 1006, variety E; Spink 1379E), an even and uniform striking, a pleasing very fine and an excellent 'survivor' free from gilding or mounting, very rare thus.
