Lot description: Mercia, Offa (757-796), Light Coinage, Portrait Issues, Penny, c. 785-792/3, Canterbury, Peohtweald, + O • F • F • A • R • EX +, draped bust right, with ringlet hair, rev. + PEHTVVALD (HT ligated) in angles of a Celtic cross with a long cross fleurée over small saltire cross of petals, 1.16g [17.9grns], 1h (Chick 128; SCBI 67 [British Museum], 34-35; North 295; Spink 908), slightly chipped with trace surface porosity, otherwise field toned, very fine, very rare.
