Lot description: NETHERLANDS. Holland. Gulden, 1797. NGC MS-65. KM-2.2; Sch-92a (RR). Variety with HOLL struck over WESTF. A RARE variety, struck from dies originally intended for West Friesland-especially interesting as there were no Guldens struck for West Friesland bearing this date. An undeniable Gem, bearing clean, strikingly lustrous fields that bear no major marks or issues and flow with silky smooth originality. The strike is needle-sharp, with no areas of weakness or friction to note. Indeed, although this piece is the finest certified of the variety by a number of grade points (the NGC population lists two examples of the date in MS-63, but does not discriminate between this variety and the normal variety in the census), it is in our view quite choice for even the grade assigned. The quality and eye appeal are overall exceptional and unlikely to be matched in the future. Estimate: $4000 - $6000 |
