AGW: 0.8745 oz. Diameter: 35.2mm; Weight: 27.20 gms. Obverse: Coiled flying dragon around fireball, similar to the coinage designs of the Meiji and Taisho Emperors; 沖縄復帰記念 above, 昭和四十七年 below; hallmarks to left and right; Reverse: View of the Shureimon Gate in Shuri; Japanese government crest above; all within wreath. Paralleling the coinage issues from the predecessor's of Hirohito, this matte example stands as a RARE medallic issue commemorating the return of Okinawa to Japan from the United States, who held the territory since World War II. Includes display case.
