Lot description:

INDIA. Kushan Empire. Huvishka. AV Dinar (7.96 gms), Main mint in Baktria, ca. A.D. 151-190. EXTREMELY FINE.
ANS Kushan-709; Donum Burns-271. Early phase. Obverse: ÞAO(retrograde h)A(retrograde h)OÞAO O OhÞKI KOÞA(retrograde h)O, diademed, and crowned half-length bust left atop the clouds, holding mace-scepter and staff; Reverse: MααCh(retrograde h)O, Maaseno, nimbate and crowned, standing facing, holding bird-tipped and filleted scepter in right hand, holding sword by hilt in left; tamgha to the left. A stunning example from the reign of Huvishka, this Dinar delivers exchantingly executed style, with the obverse being of particularly fine style. A soft goldenrod hue emanates from the surfaces, and the choice details are well preserved, with only limited drawdown on the highest design elements. One of the finer Kushan Dinars one could hope to encounter, and an example that demonstrates Kushan art at its finest.

Ex: Triton XIX (Classical Numismatic Group 01/2016) Lot #350.
