| Lot description: The Silich Collection of Historical and Art Medals Maire, Jean-Baptiste (French, 1787-1859); b. Besançon, and Weiss, Pierre Charles (French, 1779-1866); b. Besançon FRANCE, Louis de Rohan-Chabot, 1836, a copper medal by J.-B. Maire for P.C. Weiss, bust three-quarters left in secular robes, rev. legend in 16 lines, 54mm, 82.30g (Wurzb. 7941; BDM III, 536). Very fine, rare £30-£40 --- Louis-François-Auguste de Rohan-Chabot (1788-1833) was an aristocrat and Catholic priest, who was elected Archbishop of Auch in June 1828, Archbishop of Besançon in December 1828, and created Cardinal in July 1830. |  |
