Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1726/7 OS) was a natural philosopher and mathematician, and one of the most influential scientists the world has ever seen. During his lifetime, he also served as the Whig MP for the University of Cambridge between 1689 and 1690, and 1701 and 1702; as Warden of the Mint from 1696 to 1699; as Master of the Mint from 1699 to 1726 (OS); and as President of the Royal Society between 1703and 1726 (OS). He died on 20 March 1726/7.
