| Lot description: The Silich Collection of Historical and Art Medals Bertola, Louis (Italian, 1891-1973); b. Borgosesia, emigrated to France c. 1920 FRANCE, Victor Grignard, 1934, an Art Déco bronze plaque by L. Bertola, bust right, rev. two classical robed figures carrying symbolic stone up the steps to the Temple of Sciences, 80 x 59mm, 234.87g (cf. DNW 56, 823). Strong portrait, good very fine, rare £80-£100 --- François August Victor Grignard (1871-1935) was a chemist who shared, with fellow Frenchman Paul Sabatier, the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1912 for discoveries important in the synthesis of organic molecules. |  |
