Lot description: Harold II Harold II (1066), PAX type with Sceptre [BMC I; N 836; S 1186], Penny, Cambridge, Godwine, Gp A, +harold rex anglo:, rev. +godpine on grantv, 1.31g/12h (Bt 39, this coin; Pagan, NM p.195 [one example noted]; Jacob 36, same dies; BMC –). A little crimped and with light deposits, otherwise very fine and extremely rare £2,000-£2,600 --- Struck from the same dies as Braintree 40 Godwine was a fairly prolific moneyer at Cambridge during the Confessor's reign. |
