Princess Charlotte of Wales (1796-1817), Death, gilt-bronze medal, 1817, by Thomas Wyon Sr., after Peter Turnerelli (1774-1839), bust l., her hair in chignon, HER ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCESS CHARLOTTE AUGUSTA &c, rev. legend in centre and two lines around, ...AS THE MORNING CLOUD, AS THE EARLY DEW, SHE PASSETH AWAY., 50.5mm. (BHM 943; BDM VI, p. 640), in contemporary maroon leather case, a choice medal, extremely fine and scarce

Peter Turnerelli (1774-1839) was an Irish born sculptor of Italian origin who studied under Peter Francis Chenu and joined the Royal Academy schools. His name is acknowledged on the medal. From 1797 to 1800 Turnerelli taught modelling to the daughters of George III and was subsequently Sculptor-in-Ordinary to the Royal Family. An example of the bust of Princess Charlotte was sold by Lyon & Turnbull as part of the 'Forbes Collection at Old Battersea House', 1 November 2011 (lot 259 - £2000).
