Within a dotted circle, caliph standing facing, bearded, placing his right hand on the hilt of his sword; to right and left, 'li ʿabd Allah ʿAbd al-Malik – amīr al-muʾminīn' ('For the servant of Allah, Abd al-Malik, Commander of the Believers' in Arabic). Rev. Within a dotted circle, transformed cross on four steps; to left and right, 'ḍuriba – bi Ḥimṣ' ('Struck in Hims' in Arabic); around, 'lā ilāha illā [Allāh waḥdahū Mu]ḥamma[d] rasūl Allāh' ('There is no deity but Allah, the One.
