Dually dated AH 1182 and RY 10 (March-May 1769). sikka zad bar haft kishwar saya fazl ilah hami din muhammad shah alam badshah / zarb murshidabad sanah 10 julus maimanat manus. CEEIC 2.34; Pridmore 40; Johnston 29; cf. KM 92 (AV half mohur). In NGC encapsulation 6382529-002, graded PF 63. A superb coin. Struck from dies of exceptional workmanship. Richly toned and much as made.

While Shah 'Alam's tenth regnal year commenced during the year 1768, approval for the striking of these half-mohurs was not issued until March 1769. This extremely rare pattern can therefore be dated to a short window between March and May 1769, when production began.

Awadh State, Brijis Qadr (AH 1273-1274/1857-1858 AD), Suba Awadh Mint, Silver Rupee, AH 1229/26 RY, 'Saya-e-fazle elah' Couplet, In the name of Shah Alam II, Obv: Persian legend "sikka zad bar haft kishwar sayaye fazle elah, hami-e-dine Muhammad Shah Alam Badshah", and the Hijri year 1229, Rev: Persian legend "sana 26 julus" & "zarb Subah Awadh" with a fish & star symbol,(KM # 386 / MK # 12.07), graded & slabbed by NGC as Mint State 64, Very Rare. Note: In 1856, the British East India Company deposed the Nawab of Awadh on grounds of corruption and annexed the state. This and other high-handed actions by the British caused simmering resentment among the natives, which broke out in a revolt by Indian troops in 1857, called the "Sepoy Rebellion". They proclaimed their allegiance to the Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah II, and also returned Brijis Qadr, son of the former Nawab, to the throne of Awadh. Brijis Qadr struck a few coins before being deposed in 1858. The Revolt collapsed the following year, but responsibility for governing India was taken from the BEIC, and turned over to the Crown.

Maratha Confederacy, Saharanpur Dar-us-surur Mint, Silver Rupee, AH (120)8 /35 RY, "Saya-e-fazle Elah" Couplet, In the name of Shah Alam II (AH 1174-1221 /1759-1806 AD), Obv: Persian legend "Sikka zad bar haft kishwar Saya-e-fazle Elah, Hami din-e Muhammad, Shah Alam Badshah" & Nagari word "Tant or Tat" in between Hami din, Rev: Persian legend "sana 35 julus" & "zarb Saharanpur" with the epithet "Dar us surur" completely visible at the top, 11.22g,22mm, (Unlisted in KM / M & W), no test mark, attractive, AU to UNC, Exceedingly Rare.

Note: The Maratha army advanced to Saharanpur, seizing the jagir of Ghulam Qadir. Meanwhile, they annexed the greater part of the Doab, along with the provinces of Delhi and Agra, establishing Maratha dominance. Ghani Bahadur of Banda became the first Maratha governor of Saharanpur, succeeded by Bhairon Pant Tantia in 1791. Following the death of Mahadji Sindhia in 1794, his viceroy Gopal Bhau appointed Bhairon Pant Tantia to Saharanpur. The Nagari word "Tant or Tat" on this coin might be connected to him.
