Lot description:

GERMANY. Prussia. Kaiser Wilhelm Coronation 25th Anniversary Bronze, 1886. PCGS SPECIMEN-64.
By Lauer. Diameter: 33.6mm. Obverse: Laureate bust of Wilhelm, right, perimeter legend, signature at rim below; Reverse: Laurel crown, date range within, perimeter legend. Wilhelm ascended to the throne as King of Prussia on 2 January 1861 upon the death of Friedrich Wilhelm IV. In the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1, South German states joined the North German Confederation, resulting in the creation of the German Empire with Wilhelm as its head. Attractive plum toning in the obverse peripheries, with cobalt and plum on the reverse. Produced by the Lauer firm in Nürnberg. Much rarer than a similar Lauer production (using a left-facing portrait and a tab for a suspension ring). Reference the 30 August 1887 Numismatisch-sphragistischer Anzeiger for an early offering of this medal.

Estimate: $200 - $400
