DENMARK. 300th Anniversary of the Reformation in Denmark Silver Medal, 1836. Frederick VI. CHOICE UNCIRCULATED.
Whiting-685.By Frederik Christopher Krohn. Diameter: 54.7mm. Obverse: Bust of Frederick VI, right, perimeter legend at left and right, signature below bust; Reverse: Allegory of religion standing at right, facing left, offering a centenary wreath to Denmark, seated at left and holding a Bible; two additional centenary wreaths suspended above; perimeter legend, legend and date in exergue below. A disputed succession to the Danish throne found the Papacy and Christian III on opposing sides. Upon the end of the so-called Count's War, Christian III emerged victorious and implemented a reformed, national church in Denmark, independent of Rome and the Catholic Church. This medal boasts highly reflective surfaces with a dazingly display of gold, cerulean, cobalt, plum, and russet toning. There are only a few inconsequential marks on the fields, however there is a rim bruise near the six o'clock position; otherwise this medal would grade as a gem. Comes with original case.

Estimate: $200 - $300
